To the many who sent suggestions for titles for my upcoming history myths book, thanks! The publishers, Colonial Williamsburg and Andrews-McMeel, decided on a “working title,” meaning it may well change. In their infinite wisdom, they decided on (drum roll please):  DEATH BY PETTICOAT, AND OTHER HISTORY MYTH-CONCEPTIONS. A rather hefty title for a tiny book–as I understand it, it’s going to be a small format, square, and retail for $9.99 or something in that vicinity. The publishers have the text and we will spend the next few weeks finishing up on the illustrations.

I also want to take this opportunity to invite readers who might have their own experiences with myths to write a guest blog. Please don’t be shy, we’re all just folks here. Just type out a story about something that happened at a museum or something you heard. Send to me directly at mmtheobald@comcast.net and I’ll incorporate in a future post.

And now it’s time for a glass of wine to celebrate. Cheers!

Congratulations! I can hardly wait for the book to come out. This is such a terrific project. Everyone has been dying for a forum to deal with these questions. The process has been so entertaining. Thanks for taking this on.

  2. I really like the “working title.” Not only is the “death by petticoat” catchy, but also the “myth-conceptions” creates a lingering pause as one realizes the very meaningful play on words. The title becomes the subject of subtle (and double-dose) humor worth repeating for the fun of it.
